C25K week 1 day 1

Fitness is going to be the death of me.  Today I joined a Marine Corps spouse group called the Stroller Warriors which is a group of runners, with strollers for their littles.  I was fortunate in that today they were starting a training specifically for beginner runners.  C25K, couch to 5k, is a program through a free app called Zanlab fitness.

I showed up with the group which was huge, met a great girl who ended up being my running buddy for the day, and we did the training.  It consisted of 5 minutes of a brisk walk for the warmup, then 1 minute of jogging and 1.5 minutes of walking.  We did the run/walk alternating for 20 minutes total not including the 5 minute warmup and a 5 minute cooldown.  It was a total of 8 minutes of running.

In the beginning it seemed too easy, the 60 seconds went by quickly, but by the end I was glad to have a buddy giving me some accountability.  The app has 3 workouts a week for 8 weeks, which is the total time from the couch to running a 5k.  I can’t wait to improve my cardio and get into jogging!

However, if you know any great tips or tricks to prevent my left hip flexor from hurting after a jog please pass the info on.

  1. I just started a similar program today on a app called RUN. I only got through half of today’s session before I thought I was going to die. It was the first time I have run in 20 years. I instead walked 2 miles. I’m going to try again tomorrow. I can’t wait to hear how your progress goes.
