If you Google image search “Memorial Day” you will get photos of everything that Memorial Day represents. There are photos of the American flag, Arlington Cemetery, “Land of the free because of the brave” image quotes, and so on… Yet so many people say to each other “Happy Memorial Day” and only acknowledge the day as the unofficial start of summer. I just want to make a short post today to encourage you all to take a moment to remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country, for you. Even if you do not know any particular individual who has, you can do this, and I strongly encourage you to. I won’t tell you not to thank a veteran, but keep in mind that this holiday is, in particular, to remember those who you can no longer thank verbally, face-to-face. The people celebrated on this day are those who family members and friends can no longer hug or enjoy time with. Veteran’s Day in the fall is the perfect day to ensure you thank every veteran you see.
Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend but know why it exists and, at least, please take a moment to remember those who have sacrificed it all for you.
